MFWA 2015 | Caroline Hili S/S 2016 Collection

Date: Wednesday 13th May 2015
Time: 20:30hrs
Location: Barrakka Lift, Lascaris Wharf, Valletta

The next fashion show for the fifth edition of the Mercedes-Benz Malta Fashion Week was the one I was looking forward to from the moment we knew the location where it was to be hosted - the Barrakka Lift at the revamped Lascaris Wharf.

For a little bit of history, this lift was fully functional during the times of British rule in Malta yet it stopped being used altogether and had been in an abandoned state for quite a good number of years. Three years ago, it was then fully restored to its former glory and I am pleased to say it has been maintained pretty well ever since.

This was the backdrop for Caroline Hili's S/S 2016 Collection where the models descended to the catwalk via the lift to display the very sexy and daring collection the designer opted for this time round.

Most of the garments were very sheer and while I don't think I would wear them, I did like the mix of pastels and brights and different fabrics such as PVC, lace and tulle portrayed in the collection. Moreover, the silver accents and a healthy dose of black, give the collection an unexpected edge.

The makeup was also quite dramatic with models wearing yellow eyeshadow and feather lashes. On the other hand, the hair was gathered in loose, curly, low ponytails which looks effortless but is still creative.
