The Off-Shoulder Dress

Hey everyone :) Today I have another outfit post from our weekend getaway in Gozo. Our choice for dining out on Saturday evening was Il-Logga restaurant in Xaghra which is just a 5 minute walk from where we were staying. This provided us with the perfect opportunity to go for a walk a little earlier than our reservation time to take in the beautiful surroundings at this time of day and get the outfit pictures taken by my ever patient better half.

The restaurant is part of a small boutique hotel overlooking Xaghra valley. You can even see the beautiful blue waters in the distance and the statue of Our Lord the Saviour atop the Tal-Merżuq hill.

I wanted something sweet and comfortable for dinner and this dress really fit the bill. I paired it with these embroidered gold shoes and my Diane von Furstenberg Gallery bag.

For makeup, I went for a little more colour than the usual neutrals. I had received some products from Flormar a few days before, one of which was this beautiful emerald eyeshadow which matched the dress perfectly and I had to somehow include it in my look for the night. I applied it just under my bottom lashes for a hint of colour against the dark pink/purple on my eyelids. The mascara from the same collection is perfect to give oomph to the lashes - my better half thought I was wearing falsies! The bronzer provided the perfect finishing touch to give a sun-kissed look to my skin :)

MAC Technique | Training Room at MAC Valletta

You probably know that MAC has opened it's third and largest outlet on Zachary Street in Valletta a while back. During the official opening, I learnt that this new outlet will house a training room where MAC Technique classes would be held and now that the premises are almost complete, I had the pleasure of visiting the store once again to see what the training room is all about.

Decked in signature black MAC furniture against white walls, and receiving plenty of natural light, the room is every makeup aficionado's dream. Everything was set-up for last Thursday's MAC Technique class as I happened to visit on that particular morning. Elena, was very helpful in showing me around and explained that MAC Technique happens every 2 months and aims at helping clients who attend, in mastering a makeup technique during a 2 hour long class. For example, Thursday's class was all about smoky eyes - from the more natural looks to the more dramatic ones.

Each station was set-up with all the tools attendees would need as well as a notebook with space to jot down notes and face charts which the clients get to keep.

I honestly really liked this new concept offered by MAC here in Malta and I will definitely be booking my place for one of the classes just to experience it all in the heart of our capital city!

MAC Technique classes cost €60 which are redeemable in MAC products. For information about future classes, make sure to like their Facebook page.

Postcards from Gozo

I spent last weekend playing tourist with my better half on the idyllic island of Gozo. It is much more quiet and green than Malta and that makes it a favourite getaway destination with locals and tourists alike. Summer in Gozo is as alluring as winter with plenty of things to do apart from topping up your tan one of the spectacular beaches. Moreover, Gozo magically helps you transition into a calmer mood as soon as you board the ferry.

On Saturday Morning, following the ubiquitous trip to Rabat, the island's capital, for some traditional pastizzi, we made our way to ar il-Mixta on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Nadur.

The name of the cave derives from 'maxtura' which translates to 'cot' in English. This open cave overlooks the beautiful Ramla l-Ħamra bay which is characterised by the red sand along the shore which cannot be found anywhere else on our islands, hence the name of the bay (ħamra meaning red).

Għar il-Mixta, with the tranquil views of the bay is really postcard material and provides a really nice backdrop for pictures. Speaking of postcards, I wore this bralet on the day which has this beautiful postcard print, reminiscent of Dolce and Gabbana designs. I bought it off Asos during their sales and
I opted to let it be the stand out piece in this outfit by styling it with high waisted white shorts and this gorgeous pair of gold embellished slides.

The bag was an obvious choice as I can't get enough of it for it goes with so many colours and outfits! This outfit is perfect for strolls in the summer heat. I wore minimal jewellery, with my favourite article being the faux opal earrings. Opal is my birthstone, something I am quite fond of because of the many colours and forms the stone can be found in.

That was one colourful outfit! Wish you all a fabulous week :)

Review | The Body Shop Bouncy Sleep Mask

I have a confession to make...I hoard face masks. I have hydrating masks, deep cleansing masks, peel off masks, etc and just when I thought I cannot have another type of face mask in my bathroom cupboard, I get introduced to The Body Shop's Bouncy Sleep Mask during their summer event last month.

Apart from discovering the summer launches, us bloggers were gifted with a product of our choice from The Body Shop and my choice was of course the Bouncy Sleep Mask. What drew me to this mask is the texture and the fact that you can leave it on overnight for a super moisturising treat.

The mask comes in a box that contains a green glass jar with 90ml of product and a small spatula to scoop the mask with. The mask has a bouncy, cream-gel texture and contains Edelweiss stem cells to aid cell renewal. It is advised to apply onto clean skin and leave on overnight to absorb and renew the skin.

I have been using this mask once a week to renew my skin especially after a day in the sun to boost hydration. I apply one spatula-ful to my face and another to my neck right after throughly cleansing my skin and I sleep with the mask on. It does feel a little sticky and takes some time before it is absorbed because of it's rather rich texture. In the morning however, my skin feels refreshed and looks better than the day before. I still have to cleanse it though for the mask can still be felt on the skin to a certain extent.

Despite the stickiness, I really enjoy using this mask, primarily because the little girl in me is always amused at the sight of the mask assuming a perfect surface after each use! I think my skin is already reaping the benefits of using the mask, thus this mask is far up in my favourite skin care products list!

Get it from The Body Shop in Paola, Plaza (Sliema), Valletta, Bugibba and PAMA (Mosta).

Ruffles On Top of Ruffles!

Remember that pair of coloured Zara heels I posted on Facebook a while back? Well I wanted a nice red dress to go with them for Showers at Cafe del Mar. I immediately went a hunt to find the perfect red dress, a mission which remains unaccomplished to date, thus I had to find an alternative outfit.

With ruffles being big this season, I thought of opting for something fun to pair the shoes with; consequently, as soon as I came across this top and skirt from Zara I knew they were what I was looking for! I just love how red and blue go well together and the ruffles really did make a statement; as for the shoes, I think they tied in well with the outfit and lent it even more colour!

The party couldn't come any faster for I was really excited to wear this outfit. I finished it off with a pair of small stud earrings from ALDO, a cut-out cuff from Debenhams and this gorgeous bag which you wouldn't believe is from Aliexpress! Actually, a seller had sent the bag to me to do a review on the Aliexpress website and I have to say I am impressed with the quality of this bag. Scroll down for more pictures of the bag after the outfit shots :)

The bag is from a called PMSIX and they really do have some nice designs if you want to check them out :) Mine has a ton of compartments which means I can skip carrying a wallet and I can easily find whatever I would be looking for at a any given time. It also comes with a long chain to wear it as a cross-body bag, a small leather strap to wear it as a wristlet and I can omit attaching the chain and strap altogether and carry it as a clutch! What's more? The embroidery is just perfect and I love the little tassel detail too :)

Showers is a luxury party presented by Remax at and for the fifth year running, the event was sold out. It was held at Cafe del Mar in Qawra under the organisation of Events By Martin, with the help of numerous sponsors who make sure guests are entertained and kept in a jovial mood all throughout. There were international and local dee-jays playing summer tunes during the whole of the afternoon/evening and the place was decorated as if it were a unicorn playing field!

We had a really great time and me and my friend even got some glitter makeup applied! This was my first year attending Showers and it most definitely won't be the last!

Art Exhibition and Pop-Up Shop by JAD and Ro Art Ceramics

Yesterday morning I had the pleasure of visiting a jewellery and ceramic art exhibition hosted by Gioia Clavenzani from JAD (Jewellery Art Design) and Robbie Mazzaro from Ro Art Ceramics at the Auberge de France in Vittoriosa.

I was immediately greeted by Gioia and Robbie who walked me through their works and gave me an in-depth explanation on the methods and materials they use to make their incredible creations.

JAD Jewellery Art Design

JAD is the brain-child of Gioia Clavenzani and Ivano Ghianelli who share a common love for jewellery, design and contemporary art. Gioia is a psychologist by profession while Ivano is a goldsmith. They opened their first studio in a small, quiet town between Umbria and Tuscany in 2011 and continued to focus of creating beautiful jewellery pieces when they moved to Malta in 2015.

JAD is home to very unique, creative jewellery pieces that are easy to wear and incorporate with different outfits. The pieces are mainly inspired by the Maltese Islands with a strong presence of the materials they are crafted from. The pieces also exhibit touches of contemporary art and Italian design using old, traditional, artisan methods and tools.

The more contemporary pieces are mostly inspired by other artists' work such as this gorgeous piece which is inspired by the work of Spanish artist Augustin Ibarrola and this unique piece inspired by the works of Japanese sculptor Kengiro Azuma.

Recently, JAD created a jewellery collection especially for Rosita Silk Sense for her fashion show during the final night of Miss World Malta. The concept of this collection revolves around three aspects - geometry, the Mediterranean and the ancient Japanese art of Shibori which Rosita uses to paint patterns on her silk creations.

When asked which materials are her favourite to work with, Gioia answered 'silver' without hesitation
as it allows for a better work experience and is less costly than gold. She goes on to say that she also likes working with metal wire and precious stones other than the classical ones, such as rutilated quartz and tourmaline which are, again, less costly.

The middle piece features rutilated quartz - no two stones look alike, hence each piece is unique!

JAD also produce some colourful pieces such as cotton and silver neckalces and other metal wire pieces such as the ones in the photos below.

I think JAD makes some very beautiful jewellery which appeals to my style and I predict it won't be long until I add a piece or two to my own collection!

Ro Art Ceramics

The other artist exhibiting her work with JAD's is Robbie Mazzaro from Ro Art Ceramics. Robbie is originally from Venezuela, has spent most of her life in Italy and moved to Malta four years ago. She started making ceramic art after she attended a masterclass in Rome in 2012. Robbie is widely inspired by nature which is easy to see in her work. She is fascinated by the complex and beautiful natural structures and textures found in plants, bark, seed pods, corals and shells. Robbie emphasizes that she loves contrast, such as the rough texture, colour of the clay and the glossy colors and often maintain the clay's original colours and textures to represent this natural form within her work.

'A Drop in The Rough Sea' is one of mt favourite creations from Ro Art Ceramics

She also states that she doesn't like very precise work and makes sure none of her pieces look exactly the same. I think my favourite collection from her is the Sea Breeze collection which mainly features ceramic bowls.

Robbie makes small works of art intended for decorative purposes as well as bigger decorations. She doesn't use the conventional pottery wheel but reverts to coils to create her impressive works which would look good in any house! She also likes to incorporate ropes in her designs and of course experiments with different techniques such as molten glass.
