5 Items to Start Off Your Luxury/Designer Collection

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog! Today I wanted to share with you 5 items (at different price points) to help you delve into the world of luxury designer goods. Now I know that not all of us want to spend so much money on a single item but there are also others who want to ;) I fall into the latter category and while I was always into designer items, I didn't always have the luxury to spend so much money on them, but I still appreciated the craftsmanship and lush feel of the goods so now, whenever I can, I like to treat myself, because, why not?!

In this post, I will also be sharing with you different outfits where I wore these items that I am going to show you so as to give you an idea of how much wear you can get out of them. Think of it as a way of justifying the price 😉 not that you need to justify your spending to anyone, but anyway, you know what I mean.

I will also be giving you tips of what I think is the best approach to making an informed decision on what to buy depending on your tastes, lifestyle and budget so let's jump right into it!

Sunglasses or Prescription Glasses

This is probably the best purchase you can make if you're new to designer goods. You know I wear specs and the ones I have, have already lasted me more than 3 years. They are signed Dolce & Gabbana and they don't show any signs of wear. They did cost me upwards of €300 but when you think about it, I wear them every day and I think they are by far my most used designer piece.

As for sunglasses, my Versace ones are the pair I reach for the most because the shape is timeless and they go with practically everything my wardrobe. They are gold which is my favourite metallic to wear so that guarantees a lot of wear out of them for me and I love the exquisite detailing on them. I think I paid around €200 for these but again, I get so much wear out of them that I really think they were definitely a great purchase.

⁕ Belt

No I am not going to show you the Gucci Marmont belt. No no no! Don't be offended if you have the belt, enjoy wearing it, please do, but I feel that everyone and their mother has one. I personally tend to deviate away from things that everybody has and I tend to gravitate more towards other pieces which do not necessarily prop up all over the internet. Case in point, my Salvatore Ferragamo Gancini belt. I wanted a designer belt and when I was looking at different options, this one caught my eyes. It is reversible so you're sort of getting 2 belts for the price of 1 and I really love the Gancini buckle. I bought this while on honeymoon in Japan so I paid a bit more than the €295 you pay for it in Europe but I love wearing this belt so much that I am considering getting another one in a different style.

⁕ Cardholder

Moving on to something you wouldn't necessarily wear but it's more like something you would carry around in your bag, cardholders or small coin purses are one of the best things you can treat yourself with. They usually come at a more attractive price point (depending on the brand of course), for example this YSL one I have cost €175 and honestly, whenever I am carrying a small bag, this is what I downsize my wallet to. I has a total of 4 card slots - 2 at the front and 2 at the back and a middle compartment which I usually use to carry cash in. There are various options available so do your research well and see what is more practical for you before parting with your cash.

⁕ Scarf

A lot of brands make absolutely gorgeous scarves and let's face it, they are probably some of the most worn accessories around. I have a gorgeous classic Burberry check scarf, which yes, a lot of people have, because it is a classic and so well made. I chose to buy mine in the stone colour rather than the traditional camel background associated with the Burberry house check (again, me and my fixation of not buying what everyone else has) and I also opted to have my initials embroidered on it to give it a more personal touch. The price of these scarves has gone slightly up but when I bought it, I paid €395 for it and come autumn and winter, I really do enjoy wearing it. The cashmere is so soft and cosy that I never want to take it off me!

⁕ Shoes

You probably know which pair I am going to show you here and yes you are right, my Gianvito Rossi Plexi Pumps have got to be the absolute best designer purchase in my collection. I bought them 3 years ago for €600 which is crazy I know, but I wear these shoes to practically everywhere - weddings, parties, events, date nights, you name it! They are the  most comfortable pair of heeled shoes I own and I  don't regret buying them at all; in fact, I am already looking to buy another pair or two in different colours. They were actually my first ever designer purchase and I'm really happy they are wearing so well!

Bonus - Wallet on Chain

Most designer brands make what are known as wallets on chain (WOC) which are basically small bags that you can carry as a clutch or on a strap. I have the YSL Monogram WOC which was an engagement gift (apart from the ring) from my now husband. If you've been following me for a while, you know that I wear this bag for a lot of occasions and events and I absolutely love the aesthetic of it; so much so that I got the cardholder to match it. This was close to the €1000 mark (€895 to be exact) so it's sort of at a more accessible price point than other designer bags. Again, there are loads of options from various brands so do make your research beforehand.

Lastly, I wanted to conclude this post with a few tips on how you can make the best possible purchase that you will enjoy for years to come.

  • If you look at the items I have shown you, you can tell that I tend to buy classic pieces which will always be in fashion, in colours that never go out of fashion. Of course, your purchase has to fit your aesthetic, but do think it through in terms of will you love the item as much in 2, 3, 5, 10 years?
  • Budgeting is highly important too. Please remember that these are luxury items and not something that you have to have just because everybody else does. No bag or pair of shoes or anything that's not a necessity is worth going bankrupt for, work with what you have and you do you!
  • YouTube is an excellent resource for luxury lovers and it is where I get most of my research done. Search for reviews and blog posts with clear pictures of the item you are interested in and if you're lucky enough to live near the brand's store, go and have a proper look at the item before buying it.

That's it for this post and I really hope you enjoyed reading through it; please do let me know if you'd like more content of the sort or any other ideas that you might have 😊

It's a Luxury Kind Of Thing - My 28th Birthday Outfit

Part of my birthday celebrations was of course a special dinner with my better half at Il-Wejla by Taratun at Smart City. We had to postpone our dinner for a week later but I wanted to share with you what was still technically my birthday outfit.

Dress, Michael Kors | Shoes, Gianvito Rossi
Bag, Furla | Scarf, Burberry

These pictures were taken the day after though because I wanted the best possible light for this outfit. I went for a classic little black dress paired with some new items that I got and was gifted for the occasion and my Gianvito Rossi pumps.

Of course the star item in this outfit is the monogrammed Burberry scarf. It came in very handy once we were out of the restaurant into the rather chilly air. I love the dress too - the cut flatters my frame and figure and the lace detail at the back is just gorgeous! You all know I am obsessed my Gianvito Rossi's so it was not up for discussion which shoes I was going to wear and I completed the outfit with my boyfriend's gift - the Furla bag. I must admit I felt quite special in this outfit and I even wore my Rouge Louboutin lipstick and Loubilaque to complete the makeup look and add to luxury factor. Oh and for the record it did last all throughout the meal without the need for retouching!

Sheer Black and Flowers - Outfit for Day 5 of MFWA 2017

For the last day of the shows, it was back to my trusty Gianvito Rossi heels. This time I wore them with this gorgeous number from London F Cafe'.

Dress, London F Cafe | Shoes, Gianvito Rossi | Bag, Diane von Furstenberg
Earrings, Sif Jakobs at 202 Jewellery | Bangle, Calvin Klein | Ring, Spinning Jewellery at 202 Jewellery

As soon as I put on this dress I feel ok with myself..there's something about it that makes me feel really pretty and in my element. For one who doesn't really like black, I am finding myself reaching for this dark colour more because I have to admit that it does have an elegant feel to it. However the mint and pink embroidery provide that perfect touch of colour I crave with all black outfits.

On the day, I styled my hair with the TRESemme Max The Volume Textured Body Creme for a bit of oomph.

Verging on Punk - Outfit for Day 2 of MFWA 2017

Yesterday presented a melange of shows from very different designers yet the vibe was somewhere between feminine and god-like with a touch of rebel.

Dress, Freeze Frame Fashion | Shoes, Gianvito Rossi
Bag and Earrings, River Island

I felt this that this dress from Freeze Frame embodies all that - with it's deep v-neck and bodycon fit, it gives an element of sexiness while the sequined mesh bell sleeves lend it a rather punky vibe. To complete the look I went for this green velvet (same material as the dress) bag from River Island as I felt it really brings out the green colour shift of the sequins. I did the same with the makeup where I opted to blend in green and purple to accentuate the colour shift. Lastly, I wore my Gianvito Rossi plexi pumps to really bring the look together.

What do you think of this look? Stay tuned for more fashionable updates ;) Thank you Neil for the pictures!

Unboxing Gianvito Rossi Plexi Pumps

A few days ago I posted a teaser picture of the Gianvito Rossi shoe box which had just landed on my doorstep. The contents? Well, I can finally say I am the proud owner of a pair of Gianvito Rossi Plexi Pumps!

It is my first pair of designer shoes and it took me quite some time to decide which pair would initate my collection and after seeing the Gianvito Rossi plexi pumps on a YouTube video, I immediately fell in love with them and began saving up.

In the meantime, I kept looking up reviews to make sure I was going for a good pair that would last me for a good number of years. Well I was pleased to know that many YouTubers claim that the shoes are very comfortable and the plastic doesn't cut into the skin. This was going to be the birthday and Christmas gift from me to me. To cut a long story short, after failing to buy the shoes in both Munich and Milan, as my size wasn't in stock, I resorted to buying the shoes online from the Gianvito Rossi website and after just two days, the shoes were on my doorstep!

The box they come in has luxury written all over it with an embossed stripe texture and the Gianvito Rossi brand logo stamped on the lid and the sides. The shoes come with a 'thank you' note and the order invoice (in separate envelopes) and a little card with care instructions. They also come with a dust bag and a little bag with two heel tabs.

I already wore the shoes and I can confirm they are very comfortable and they are a very classy alternative to the classic black pump. I chose the black suede variety for I think they are timeless and I already own a pair of patent black heels.

The shoes don't come cheap at €590 (+ €15 shipping fees) but well I guess it was a well deserved present to treat myself to :) I have a ton of outfits planned around these beauties so I guess the cost per wear will be justified soon enough :)
