Back to the intended subject of this post. So I was cleaning my nail room earlier and I had a look through my stash and some nail polishes really needed a good clean around their necks to remove dried nail polish.
We all know how dried nail polish on the bottle neck can lead to the polish inside to thicken and dry out so it is important to keep your clean at all times. This is because with the polish build-up, the cap won't close as tight as it should, leading to a higher of possibility of air coming in contact with the polish inside, the solvents in the nail polish evaporate and hence turn it all gloopy and thick.
Today I am going to share with you the method I find to be the most effective at cleaning polish build-up. It works on the same principle of the foil removal method for taking off glitter and dark polishes off your nails but with a little (yet important) tweak! I also recommend you wear gloves while doing this especially if you are wearing nail polish so as not to ruin it.
You will need:
- Gloves
- Cotton discs
- Cotton discs
- Aluminium foil
- Pair of scissors
- Nail polish thinner
- Nail polish bottles to clean
- Vaseline
Method:
1. Start by cutting up the cotton discs in half. I had six bottles to clean up so three discs were all I needed.
2. Cut out six pieces of Aluminium foil big enough to wrap around the bottles' necks.
3. Soak one half of a cotton disc with nail polish thinner and wrap tightly around the neck of the bottle. The reason why I prefer to use thinner over polish remover is that vapours from the thinner will not ruin the polish inside the bottle (if anything, it restores polish!) and also when you take off the cotton disc, you will not be left with cotton stragglers stuck to the bottle because thinner takes longer to evaporate. You don't have to spend a fortune on thinner though. I got mine from Born Pretty Store and you can also check out Ebay.
4. Secure in place with a piece of Aluminium foil and leave the thinner to act for a couple of minutes.
5. After 2 or 3 minutes, take the foil off gently and unwrap the cotton disc. You should be left with a clean nail polish bottle and a polish laden cotton disc! Easy no?!
6. Lastly, to prevent any polish from building up again, smear a little Vaseline around the neck of the bottle and secure the cap tightly.
And there you go! Clean polish bottles in no time!
