April Collective Haul

This month I have been quite a little naughty girl when it comes to shopping but I'm pretty pleased with what I got my hands on! Read on to see if my purchases are justified ;)

The Point shopping complex in Sliema has celebrated its 3rd year and for the occasion, various stores have been offering discounts according to how much you spend so I made the most of it a you will see from the pictures!

From Springfield, I bought this royal blue crochet top and I paid €26.99 because I had a €3 off coupon. I'm really not into the oversize jumpers thing, I just think they make my petite frame look ridiculous and I struggled to find some nice jumpers this past season so this was a welcome find...as was this pastel multi-coloured sweater from Stradivarius which I cannot wait to wear as I have planned so many outfits with it! Also from Stradivarius, I just couldn't pass up this Eiffel Tower print shirt which was screaming my name as soon as I entered the store! People must have thought I was crazy because I flashed a huge smile at it as soon as I saw it *cringe*. The jumper was €29.95 while the shirt was €17.95.

Moving on, I received a €30 voucher to spend at New Look last Christmas and I thought I'd wait for the new spring stock to come out and I think I did well in saving it as I combined the voucher with another €3 off coupon and ended up getting more items!

First off, I bought this monochrome dress for €24.99 which I have worn to the Wjcon bloggers' event earlier this month and since I had more money to spare, I bought this cute pair of socks for €2.50, two Montagne Jeunesse face masks for €2.50 as well and I also picked up a pack of Eylure Black Individual Lashes which were €3.99.

The Versace perfume sample was given to me by the sales assistant at Franks as Johan had a voucher to spend there and bought a Davidoff perfume for himself. As for the Rimmel Apocalips, I got the shade 303 Apocalyptic for €7.15 from the supermarket.

Orsay really have a nice collection of jewellery and I especially love their earrings! I bought two pairs that have summer written all over them! They cost €4.95 each.

Finally, I have gotten my hands on the much coveted and very hard to find limited edition Maybelline Eye Studio Quad in 400 Olive Martini from ebay!! I have been looking for this palette all over the place and either it was overly expensive or it wasn't available. So I was extremely happy to finally find the palette from a French seller for just €5.70 (including postage and packaging) and it was new and 100% genuine!

Since tipp-ex white nails are on trend right now, I had been meaning to buy a white nail polish for some time so as to end up using the tip painter. I bought shade 300 White On from the Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear range for just €4.95 and when I paid for it, the lady at the till told me I had a free nail polish from the same range so I picked up the shade 290 Crushed, perfect for the hot summer months!

This month I also got round to try Italian brand Wjcon after attending a bloggers night and then I went back and bought a few products. In the goodie bag, I got a limited edition Baked Eye Shadow Passion no.604 which is a very beautiful bright orange and being baked, it can be used either wet or dry, and a lilac nail lacquer no.702. On the same night I bought an eyeshadow stick to use primarily as eyeliner as I really needed a bright blue one. I chose shade 10 Sapphire and it cost €6.50.

The next time round, I had more time to browse the brand's extensive collection of products and I ended up getting the following items:

Corrective Primer Green (€9.90), Body Draining Oil (€14.90), Bi-phasic make up remover (€5.90), Matt Sublime Lipstick 611 (€5.90). I will test the products thoroughly and reviews will follow.

I'm still waiting for a few more items from ebay but I will feature them in next month's haul post. What did you spend your pennies on this month?

Review | St.Ives Apricot Scrub

I have recently changed some of my skin care products and one of the new products in this regard is the St.Ives Apricot Scrub. Up to a couple of months back, I was relying on the Nivea Visage Young scrub to keep my skin looking radiant but for some reason, it was out of stock on multiple occasions so I decided to have at a go at this one instead.

With regards packaging, this is significantly bigger and contains 200mL of product. The tube format is always convenient to avoid product waste and it is more hygienic.

The scrub presents itself as a thick whitish cream with a light peach tinge and rather large granules. For this reason I wouldn't recommend this product for young and overly sensitive skin as it may feel too harsh. In fact, if my skin is going through a sensitivity phase and whenever I use this scrub, my face would redden up a little but it fades away after some time. Other than that, it leaves my skin peachy soft and silky smooth and visibly more radiant.

Being oil free and rich in natural exfoliants and hyaluronic acid, it is perfect for my oily/blemished skin type. Although sensitive, my skin never burns while using this product and it didn't break me out. Being thick, it does take some time to rinse so use copious amounts of tepid water, and like all products, make sure you remove all traces.

I feel this scrub prepares my skin very well for a face mask as the latter seems to work better after I have applied a scrub than when I don't. It says it combats blemishes but I cannot really comment on that as spots still take a full 5 days ta banish after they first appear.

All in all, I think this is a good product and one you should try if you're looking for a good face scrub that won't break the bank. I paid €6.99 for it. St.Ives products are widely available in pharmacies all around Malta & Gozo.

*Edit* After using the product for a longer period of time, the scrub didn't seem to agree with my skin anymore and it was breaking me out so I quit using it on my face. It makes for a good hand and body scrub though so it didn't go to waste.

The Exit Interview Series | Volume #19

I was going through my make-up and skin care stash earlier this month to see which products have to be used up and also to check if anything has gone bad. Actually, I found three products that fit the latter category and I am going to start this empties post with them.

First up, Revlon ColorStay Makeup for Combination/Oily Skin in 180 Sand Beige. This is my first ever foundation and I liked it at first because it offers great coverage and so on but then, after a couple of uses, I noticed my skin was breaking out and I also felt like I was wearing a mask with this foundation so I stopped using it. Then, the other day, while going through my face products stash, I noticed that the foundation has separated...a sign it has gone bad so I will be throwing this out. Needless to say, no repurchase here.

The same happened with this nose peel-off mask from The Face Shop. I've had this for a long time and since it separated, I am throwing it out. I really like its mode of action though so a backup is on its way.

The last of the not emptied empties is the Essence Lash & Brow Gel Mascara which I wanted to use up but I couldn't get myself to it because it has gone dirty and I hate using such products on my face. However, I have already bought a backup.

Now, on to the actual empties. I have had this bottle of nail polish remover at the back of a drawer in my nail room and I pretty much used up what was left of it. I have switched to the Essence polish removers as they are better value for money but other than that, this is a very good polish remover.

Next are two face masks from Montagne Jeunesse. I really cannot pick a favourite out of the two as I always repurchase them because I like the results they give. The ice one is also a favourite with the boyfriend...way to go MJ!

What products did you finish up in April?

Guest Post | Foundation Commandments For Summer

Good afternoon everyone :) Today I have a guest post with a subject that I'm sure is of interest to all of who, especially those who live in countries where summer is how it's supposed to be...sunny and hot! The guest writer is Amanda Green and she will share her commandments to make the most out of your foundation this summer! Enjoy!

Every season treats your skin differently, and summer is one of the harshest. Just as your skin changes, so does the way and type of foundation you use. After all, the foundation goes on your skin, so things would just naturally change together, right? With this in mind, we have come up with our foundation commandments for summer. These are things you absolutely must keep in mind during the summer months in order to keep your skin healthy, happy, and flawlessly beautifully.

Commandment #1: Thou Shalt Apply Lightly

Oh yes, this is a big one. During the summer months, you need only apply the smallest amount of foundation. Otherwise, it will end up smudging, running off, or just generally become a mess. Not only that, but sun-kissed summer skin is gorgeous, so give it some room to breathe! How on earth will you get that gorgeously tanned skin colouring if you have a mask on your face? Catch my drift?

Commandment #2: Thou Shalt Wash Completely

You should always remember to wash your foundation off your face at the end of the day, but this becomes even more important during the summer months. Leaving your foundation on overnight can cause unsightly blemishes to pop up. Add that in with the sweat, heat, humidity, sunscreen, bug spray, or whatever else is sticking to your skin and you have got yourself a mess. So just remember to wash your face thoroughly every night before bed to avoid that sticky situation.

Commandment #3: Thou Shalt Carry Blotting Papers

Blotting papers are those nifty little papers that you, well, blot onto your skin when you seem to be accumulating too much oil on your face. Many people think that these papers are only for the oily skinned, and during the rest of the year that may be true. During the summer months, however, it is necessary for everyone to carry them. They can be used to blot excessive sweat from your face so that your foundation stays fabulous, oil-free, and blemish free.

Commandment #4: Thou Shalt Change Shades

It's a little known fact that should be common sense, but it is totally necessary to change your shades with the season. The varying amounts of sun, wind, and humidity will alter the exact shade of your skin. Normally, this just means going one (maybe two) shades up from what you would wear in winter. If you love to get a nice tan and spend most of your hot summer days at the beach you may need to go up as many as four or five shades though. Using your winter or spring foundation colour will make you look pasty, pale, and akin to the living dead during the summer months.

Commandment #5: Thou Shalt Prime Thy Face

During summer months it becomes essential to use a primer before applying foundation. Why? Same thing that keeps being said- it's hot and you're sweaty! Primer will help to ensure your foundation stays in place all day long, which is what you want, isn't it?

Well ladies, there you have it! Those are our foundation commandments for summer, and we really hope that you use them. Using these five little must-dos as we've said will help to keep your foundation in place and your skin look fabulous all summer long!

Monthly Favourites | April

As opposed to the last few months, April has seen me go back to experimenting with colours and different product combinations. Let me show you my favourite products of the month!

Starting with skin care, towards the end of March, I placed an order on the Michael Todd website for two cleansers after I saw rave reviews about them on YouTube. Up till now, I really liked Effaclar from La Roche Posay but I was still getting the odd breakout so I decided to go organic and the Michael Todd range seemed to fit my requirements. I have been using the Cleanse and Tone cleanser in the morning while I use the Charcoal Detox at the end of the day to take off my make-up and truly wash away excess sebum and dirt. My skin doesn't feel taut after using any of these and I haven't broken out yet (apart from the usual pimple or two thanks to mother nature).

Another skin care product which I've been loving in April is the Wjcon Bi-Phasic Make-up Remover which removes even waterproof make-up effortlessly and doesn't break me out at all. Also from Wjcon, I have been using this Body Draining Oil everyday for the last two weeks to help by body get rid of excess fluids and toxins. My skin has already assumed a more toned appearance and so far I really like the product! A full review will follow soon.

As for make-up, I have continued to favour bright colours and I have really been into blue mascara this month and my favourite is the Pupa Vamp! Mascara in 300 Deep Night. Now this mascara provides exceptional volume but I still like to pair it with RevitaLash Volumising Primer as it is also blue and therefore together they give a more intense blue.

Another eye product that I have been enjoying from Pupa Milano is the Multiplay eye pencil #09. It is a very intense black and lasts for hours on end...what's not to love?

With all the bright colours going on with my eyes, I have favoured neutral lips more this month. My favourite products in this regard have been Catrice Ultimate Colour Lipstick in 190 The Nuder The Better coupled with Deborah Rossetto 24 Ore in 13 Creamy; and when I want a more pinkish nude lip, I'd reach for Chanel Rouge Allure in 66 Confidentielle paired with E.L.F. Studio Glossy Gloss in Berry Blush. For bright lips, L'Oreal Rouge Caresse in 07 Cheeky Magenta (sample) and Wjcon Sublime Matt Lipstick 611 have been my go-to colours.

Tag | Most Worn Things | Winter Edition

Here's another tag post, this time, it's about my most worn things during the past winter. Read through it and leave a link to your version if you decide to have a go at it!

Most worn nail polish

This is a tough one to start with because I change my nail polish every week. I did favour nude shades last winter but Essence Vampire's Love Trend Edition Nail Polish 03 True Love has been my go-to colour when I didn't know what to wear. It goes with most of my winter clothes and the colour is absolutely fantastic. Too bad it's limited edition :(

Most worn scent

Again, I have been using up my perfume samples stash but my ultimate winter perfume is Kate Moss Velvet Hour which has a musky vanilla scent that lasts ages and it is not too strong for daytime either.

Most worn hair product

John Frieda Frizz-Ease Straightening Potion has been my saviour in this regard. I like to have straight hair in winter and this helps protect my hair against heat styling and it also keeps frizz at bay.

Most worn foundation

Catrice Ultimate Moisture Fresh Skin Make-up 010 Light Beige has been my most worn foundation as it matches my skin tone perfectly and offers the right degree of coverage.

Most worn bronzer & blusher

I don't really do bronzer that much, not even in summer but I did use the one in the Napoleon Perdis Ultimate Contour Kit as it is matte and matches my skin tone better. As for blusher, Rimmel Powder Blush 004 Pink Rose has been my favourite throughout.

Most worn lipstick

This is a tie between Givenchy Rouge Interdit 20 Illicit Raspberry and MAC Lustre Lipstick Naked Paris. I love how they both last ages, especially the Givenchy one that lasts for hours on end.

Most worn mascara

Again, a tie. Catrice Glamour Doll & Mini Max Volumising Mascaras. I like to use these volumising mascaras together to get the perfect false lash look.

Most worn eyeshadow

If this tag post had a most worn brand category, I would definitely answer Catrice Cosmetics! Another product from the budget friendly brand here... Intensif'eye Wet & Dry Shadow 010 Black or White Swan?! Worn wet, dry, alone or paired with other colours, it simply gives a very glamorous feel to the eyes with little gold glitters.

Most worn handbag

Does my Tally Weijl work bag count? It has room for all bits and bobs that I carry around with me and I sometimes even use it when heading out on errands. Otherwise the Promod Suede fringe bag was definitely my most worn bag.

Most worn accessory

I wear my Spinning Rings every single day except for work as I fear I might throw them away with the gloves. I have also been wearing my Pimkie charm bracelets & River Island gold cross bracelet very frequently because they go perfectly with practically every outfit.

Most worn shoes

Although I do love my bright coloured shoes for a pop of colour with another wise dark outfit, you cannot really go wrong with a pair of black shoes. Again I have two pairs, this gorgeous girly pair of peep-toes with towering heels and my most treasured pair, the Nine West leather boots!

So, those are the things I wore most last season. Looking forward to do the summer edition of this tag!

NOTW | Spring Blooms

The weather this week kept me in a spring mood and I opted for a floral manicure again. This time I tried the two accent nails look and I used three base colours.  Follow the simple steps to a little garden on your finger tips!

1. Prep nails with a base coat and leave to dry completely.

2. As base colours, I used Wjcon Nail Lacquer N.702 for the thumbs and index fingers, Essence Tip Painter for the middle and ring fingers and Essence Colour & Go 128 Let's Get Lost (mixed in a 1:2 ratio with the white nail polish) for the pinky fingers. Leave to dry thoroughly.

3. For the flowers, use a medium sized dotting tool to create 5 petalled flowers or 3 petalled flowers in the corners of the nails. Drag the centres of each petal toward the centre of the flower with a small dotting tool. For the flowers, I used China Glaze Lemon Fizz, Wjcon Nail Lacquer N.702 and Essence Colour & Go 128 Let's Get Lost.

4. Apply a dot of silver foil polish in the centre of each flower and leave to dry. Here, I used Orly Dazzle.

5. Seal everything with a top coat and you're done!

OOTD | Mint Cardigan

This morning me and the boyfriend had some errands to attend to and I even managed to do a sneaky little purchase from Wjcon, but more on that in another post. I decided to wear this cute mint cardigan I've had for a few months now and since the weather was favourable, I couldn't wait any longer! Here are the pictures!

Mint cardigan, Orsay | Jeans, Peacocks | White kitten heels, Zara
Bag, Aldo | Belt, Next | Necklace, Peacocks
Tresor Paris bracelet, Chamilia bangle & Spinning Rings, 202 Jewellery
Thomas Sabo bracelet & wedge shoe charm, ebay

Tag | Shopaholic

Here's a fun tag post that I'm sure most of you can relate to! Why not have a go at it yourselves?

1. Would you consider yourself a shopaholic?

Although I do shop around a lot, I am not one who will go out shopping everyday but I do love to buy pretty things and if I'm going shopping and I find nothing I will still buy something, even if it's just an accessory so I guess that classifies me as a shopaholic!

2. How would you classify your style?

Girly going on classic...skulls and studs are really not my thing though I do have a few pieces which I tend to pair with my otherwise girly outfits to give them an edge.

3. What store can you not leave without buying at least one thing?

At the moment, Stradivarius. I just love the store set-up and they always have on trend pieces at great prices. Moreover, they cater for smaller frames like mine so they are always winners with me! And they always have cute tags with the articles (so much so I collect them!). As of recently, I also love Orsay for the same reasons as Stradivarius and for their uber cute and unique accessories.

4. Where do you find the best deals?

Again Stradivarius! They have very good prices on their products and when they are on sale, they are even better! One time I got three pair of shoes from them at just €4.99 each! Enough said!

5. What designer are you willing to splurge for?

Chanel for clothes and Christian Louboutin and Jimmy Choo for shoes! They fit my style perfectly. I wouldn't say no to an Elie Saab evening gown either ;)

6. Do you have a go to shopping outfit?

Up until recently, I used to do my shopping in high heels just because I love them but after a few hours my feet would start to ache and the whole shopping mood is ruined and my boyfriend or my Mum, whoever I happen to be with would start with their usual rant of 'why do wear high heels' bla bla bla. But recently, I have gone clever and I do my shopping wearing a pair of comfortable flats and a comfy outfit that is changing-room friendly.

7. What is your guilty pleasure? (Not including makeup)

Definitely high heels! I have heels that I bought just because they look pretty and I have actually never worn them eek!

8. What is one staple clothing piece you cannot live without?

I'd say shoes because they can change the way an outfit looks in seconds but to limit myself to clothing I'd say my denim shirt from Stradivarius which goes with loads of stuff in my closet and is so versatile!

9. What is a trend you hope never goes out of style?

Trends come and go and most of the time and more often then not they are often repeated. That's why I tend to go for classic pieces that never go out fashion but if I really had to choose one, I would go for pastels.

10. What trend did you love that passed way to quickly?

None that I can recall

11. Who is your fashion icon?

Audrey Hepburn...timeless beauty and elegance personified!

Review | Joico K-PAK REVITALUXE Bio-Advanced Restorative Treatment

We all know how the story goes...sun, heat styling, loads of products...all this takes its toll on our locks and it's good to treat our hair to a repair treatment of some sort. With my hair being oily, I hate loading it with products as it will turn greasy faster than you can say, well, greasy hair of course! Having said that, I use heat styling tools and a heat protector spray almost everyday so I still need to restore and help my hair repair from time to time.

Thank God Joico K-PAK REVITALUXE Bio-Advanced Restorative Treatment came to my rescue in a very conveniently sized 50ml tube. The actual product smells really nice; pretty much like a hairdressing salon if you know what I mean. The texture is neither too thick, nor too runny...I'd say it is similar to hair conditioner, only slightly thicker.

Basically, what this claims to do is to 'complete restoration and hydration to dry, damaged hair. Instantly leaves hair stronger, softer and more moisturised.' I already said I have greasy hair, and I wash it every other day and I like to apply this Joico K-PAK REVITALUXE Bio-Advanced Restorative Treatment instead of conditioner every three washes, to restore my hair. Although highly moisturising, it doesn't make my hair go greasy earlier or anything. However, I really do like the way my hair looks and feels after using this product as it leaves my hair considerably more manageable.

I would recommend this to anyone basically because it's such a good product! I'm not sure about the price and any other available sizes though as mine came for free with a Joico shampoo and conditioner set.

Joico is a salon exclusive brand and can be found in selected salons around Malta.

Review | Catrice Absolute Eye Colour Mono Eyeshadows

One of my favourite products from Catrice are their eye shadows. I have tried different ranges and I have never been disappointed with any of them. Today I will be reviewing some of the shadows from the Absolute Eye Colour Mono range. I have 11 shades in all however, not all are available as 6 of them have sadly been discontinued.

The packaging is pretty simple yet sturdy where you get a transparent plastic square case inside which is the actual eye shadow pan that holds 2.0g of product and 'Catrice' is written just under it. The shade name and number are located at the back on a sticker. Also, new shades are clearly marked as such with a small silver sticker on the front. Here I have to admit that I really do like the creative names they come up with! I also like that the lid closes tightly on all of the shadows and if like me you are obsessed with your make-up still looking new, the packaging is easy to wipe clean.

One thing to note is that you get 0.5g less with the new shades (top) as opposed to the 2.5g with the discontinued ones (bottom).

Pigmentation varies according to shade as in the lighter ones are visibly less pigmented and it does take some swipes to build up the colour. On the other hand, the darker shades are very intensely pigmented. With a primer base, all of these eye shadows last until you take them off. Some of them can be a little powdery so be aware of fallouts when applying them.

Here comes the fun part, swatches! I will start with the ones that are still available first:

540 Rose Marie's Baby ~ pearly baby pink

550 Saw It On Blue Tube ~ dark navy with royal blue shimmer

560 I Like To Mauve It ~ rather creamy shimmery mauve

570 Plum Up The Jam ~ deep plum with gold shimmer

580 Carrots Of The Caribbean ~ matt tangerine

...and these are the discontinued shades:

010 Sunny We Love You ~ pearl yellow

150 Metallicious ~ metallic light grey

160 I Trust Stardust ~ metallic frosty white

180 Ocean's 14 ~ matt dark petrol blue/green

210 The Queen Is Amused ~ royal blue with silver shimmer

230 Where is My Caddy-Li-Lac ~ pearly lilac

If I had to pick a few favourites I would all of the new shades along with 010 and 210 and I also have my eyes on some of the newest shades that are still to be released here in Malta.

Catrice Absolute Eye Colour Eyeshadows can be found in different pharmacies across Malta & Gozo and they retail for €4.50 each.

Have you ever tried any eye shadows from this range? Which are your favourite shades?

NOTW: Pink Ombre

I have finally found some time to try ombre nails! I chose pink as I think it is a colour that's easy to work with to create the desired effect and I found that the easiest way to create a nice gradient from one nail to the next is to pick two shades of the same colour, not more than 5 shades apart and mix them in different proportions to obtain the in-between hues. Here's how I did mine:

1. Prep nails with a base coat to protect your nails.

2. Pick two shades of the same colour and mix the colours together as follows on a piece of plastic. I chose China Glaze Second Hand Silk and Essence Colour & Go 107 Naughty but Pink.

- Pinky: Naughty but Pink
- Ring Finger: 2 drops Naughty but Pink + 1 drop Second Hand Silk
- Middle Finger: 2 drops Naughty but Pink + 2 drops Second Hand Silk
- Index Finger: 1 drop Naughty but Pink + 2 drops Second Hand Silk
- Thumb: Second Hand Silk

Apply two coats of each.

3. You can either stop there and top coat the nails or else, you can opt for a little extra on the ring finger like I did. I used yellow fimo flowers for contrast and affixed a whole one at the side, followed by a two petalled one and just one petal on the other side as shown in the pictures.

4. Seal all nails with top coat and you're done!

Event | Wjcon Bloggers Night

Hey dolls hope you all had a lovely Saturday :) I couldn't post this earlier as I was working today but anywho, here is today's post!

Yesterday night I was invited along with fellow beauty and fashion bloggers to Wjcon's newly opened shop in Birkirkara. After reading a handful of reviews on a variety of products the company has to offer, I had really high expectations of the brand and to cut a long story short, I was not let down to say the least!

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the lovely Marisa (whose yellow dress really suited her), Carmine and Angelo as well as the make-up artists. After we took some time to survey the various products in the exquisitely furnished shop, we were led to the upper level where there are what Wjcon call Funky Bars. There is a brow bar, nail bar and you can even opt to have a massage as well.

The Nail Bar
The very talented Maria also did my make-up on the night and I really liked the colours she chose and the end result. We were all impressed with the competitive prices which are due to the brand manufacturing their own products.

So thanks to Wjcon for hosting us! Now excuse me while I prepare a list of products to buy :P
